After hearing countless stories from musicians around the globe of their fraught and turbulent lives as they try to ‘make it’, I felt compelled to direct a series that turned the spotlight onto them. Born and raised in very working class LA, I grew up with the kids whose parents didn’t have the connections or star power to magically make their lives easier. They had to fight tooth and nail if they wanted to succeed in their artistic pursuits. My vision was to create a series that captures the lives of these underdogs - individuals who are steadfastly gripping onto their dreams against impossible odds in an oversaturated and cutthroat industry. We will follow them through late-night gigs at dive bars, impromptu jam sessions in cramped apartments, and the quiet moments of doubt and reflection as they struggle to make their dreams work. These stories all revolve around the theme of survival - not focusing on the glamours of a musician's life - but the resilience.
