"#universalseriallove" deals with the story of a character at the edge of the abyss, who has lost any faith in life and has totally forgotten what love is. The discovery of a USB flash drive containing an advanced AI called “Lily”, an unidentified entity, turns the tables: creating a bond with Lily seems to be the only way to escape, however it also locks the main character to a spiral of isolation in the search for a “universal love”, that love that everybody needs.
The short-film develops two distinct, but parallel tracks, showing the same storyline in two different ways that, apparently, never intersect each other: by chosing heterosexuality or homosexuality, the plot leads to two completely different epilogues.

Director Biography - Massimo de Matthaeis

Massimo de Matthaeis was born in Florence in 1990.
He started his director activity from scratch, following some masterclasses of the legendary storyteller Mario Monicelli in 2007.
In 2012, he produced his first short-film as indie filmmaker. The film was presented as an out-of-competition entry at Montecatini Film Festival: one year later, at the age of 22, he became the youngest filmmaker in Italy, presenting a short-film at the oldest european short-film competition.
In 2014 he worked on several advertisings (for RAI, AIL, Lions Club and others), obtaining some awards from local festivals (ex. Filmspray 2014 in which he received an award directly from RAI Cinema).
Because of his strong activism in the spreading of medical science, he decided to film some PSAs for AIL: he won 2 awards for the comedy short "Vampirla" in 2015.
He never stopped searching new storytelling opportunities: he studied video-design at IED (European Institute of Design), refined his abilities as photographer in Ferragamo's fashion collections, obtained two degrees (Literature and Communication) and learned Virtual Reality and 3d Filmmaking (winning a call for bids by SIAE and Fondazione Sistema Toscana in 2018).

In 2018 he became CcO at AniMoo, a small media company based in Florence: under his lead, AniMoo reunited some of the best creative minds in Florence, gaining some important results. AniMoo is now an Adobe Stock Official Partner.
