UNERHÖRT! is a film festival for MUSIC FILMS based in Hamburg/Germany. In our understanding, music films are films ABOUT music, dealing with music as their main topic, as their main character, so to speak. PLEASE NOTE: Films that just have a score / soundtrack or entertain in any other way a purely utilitarian relationship to music are NOT eligible for our programs! Otherwise, no boundaries for musical styles nor cinematic form, because UNERHÖRT! programs want to create a storm of sounds and images and an experience that refers to the cultural and political space in which music and films are evolving. From there, we want to establish dialogue between filmmakers, musicians and their audiences, and help shape debates as an important link in the chain of communication about the films shown and the music we listen to.

In 2024, all films selected which are not older than three years (production year 2021) will participate in the UNERHÖRT! competition. The award for the best music film at UNERHÖRT! goes with a prize money.

The 18th edition of UNERHÖRT! will take place in November 2024.
The closing date for entries is the 15th of July 2024.

Please note: UNERHÖRT! will not pay any screening fee to submitted films selected in the final program, but will contribute to travel and accomodation costs of the filmmakers.
For reasons related to festival logistics, the required minimum length of the films should be 25 minutes. Music videos will NOT be accepted – except for pre-curated packages (total minimum length: 60 minutes).
Legal recourse is excluded. The information you provide in this online form will of course only be used to process your submission and will not be passed on. Further information can be found in our data protection declaration.
