Director Biography - Benjamin Basebanya Yaya

Benjamin Basebanya was born in the Republic Democratic of Congo in South kivu-kamanyola and currently lives in the Kyangwali refugee settlement. He was forced to flee the Congo and was separated from
his family in 2016 at 17 years old due to conflict in the region. Since that time, he has decided to
give back and contribute to advancements in his refugee camp and beyond. He has served as a
photographer and videographer, and volunteered with Planning for Tomorrow (P4T), a youth
organization as well as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), as a
humanitarian volunteer.
Benjamin Basebanya has attended a variety of training to enhance his diverse skill set such as courses on technology and video and film-making at ESOM school of music in Kampala-Uganda.
He has worked as a humanitarian reporter with Internews Uganda and as a translator and
interpreter with different organizations working in the Kyangwali Refugee settlement.
