UGUMU (The Toil)

Ever since 1861, explorer from all over the world have attempted to summit the highest peak in Africa. Some making it to the snow-capped Uhuru peak, some falling short and having to descend and some even losing their lives as they try to reach what is known as the ‘roof of Africa’.
Up to 20,000 people try to summit the Mount Kilimanjaro each year, with almost a third of whom do not make it to the highest peak because of altitude sickness. So many have been credited to have reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and even have certificates to prove that they have but the real heroes of this high risk expedition are never mentioned by any records. The ones who make scaling the heights of ‘Kili’ possible for climbers to achieve their goals and dreams are always left in the shadows.

These individuals are the true heroes, the forgotten people, the porters...
