To See the Light

To See the Light, short synopsis

Božidar Džemerković, an academic painter, brings out his roots from his native in his paintings, guided by Andrić's catchphrase that many things during life, without our knowledge, move into our souls and shape our personality. He tells his life story, which was marked by a childhood during World War II, filled with fear and hunger. The fear of the empty is present at the beginning of the work of a new painting, how to fill that whiteness on the canvas so that it is meaningful. When he finishes it, he feels calm, but, like Picasso, he wonders if he really finished his work or if he could have done it better. Božidar talks about the rational and the emotional when painting and he likes when the painting surprises him and drives him to the most perfect work that he is satisfied with. He talks about hanging out with Ćopić, Andrić, Ćosić... about the suffering of the people of Kruševac at the end of the Second World War. War... which are also some of his motives in the paintings. He gave his legacy from 1965-1990 to the Art gallery in Kruševac.
