Director Biography - Billy Higgins

A graduate of the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, Billy Higgins has been making films since his high school years. During his time at USC, he participated in the much-coveted summer internship at Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light + Magic. In his post-college adult life, Higgins had a two-year stint as a video producer for THE WALL STREET JOURNAL and taught editing and audio production to journalism students at USC for seven years. THREE is Higgins’ feature film directorial debut, but his last two shorts G.P.S. and SHEPHERD’S GATE ran in the festival circuit, the latter winning an award - Best Message at the Shore to Shore Film Festival in Glendale, CA - and earning a nomination - Best Drama at the FirstGlance Film Festival in Philadelphia, CA.

Director Statement

Our nation. Our world. It feels more divided than ever. Violence is rampant. And I fear I am part of the problem.

What will it take to truly unify us as a people? Hopefully it won’t take another world war, but this film presents the possibility that such a devastating scenario might give us the right kick in the pants to start taking the first baby steps toward valuing the greater good. In a post-COVID world such as ours, it is clear that we haven’t gotten that kick in the pants... yet.

I first came up with the idea for this project seventeen years ago - before THE WALKING DEAD television series or THE LAST OF US video game brought apocalyptic fiction into the mainstream. THREE sets itself apart because it has no zombies. No clickers. No aliens. This is something that could REALLY happen.

In the vein of a classic Alfred Hitchcock thriller mixed with the fun of a John Hughes or Rob Reiner 80’s comedy, we invite you to take this journey with us. My hope is you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and, yes, be frightened - but only enough to inspire you to embrace a brighter future - a future symbolized through our main three characters.
