The Universal Man

Our country has a huge debt with Arnoldo Palacios, the main exponent of Afro-Colombian literature of the Pacific. The Universal Man is the only documentary that manages to extract from the darkness the secrets of this writer and thinker, following his steps from the municipality of Cértegui in the Chocó in the Colombian Pacific, until arriving in the north of France.

This audiovisual piece is an intimate approach to his life and work, pretending to elevate and leave in the Colombian and world memory his literary and philosophical legacy that, in spite of its greatness, has been ignored in the critical inventory of the Colombian novel, result of the racial problems of our country.

As a child, Arnoldo suffered a poliomelitis that affected his physical mobility; his masterpiece ¨Las Estrellas es Negras¨ was burned in the riots of April 9, 1948 while he wrote it, but he rebuilt it in two weeks; managed to obtain a scholarship to study at the Sorbonne University in France; he made a great speech in Warsaw to the socialist countries, and years later he married a true French countess; He was a friend of Leon de Greff, Milan Kundera, Salvador Allende, Louis Armstrong, Roman Polanski and even met Briggite Bardot.

El Hombre Universal is a documentary produced by the Telepacífico Channel under the direction of Andrés Morales. This piece is an intimate approach to the life of Arnold, but of course, a way to reinvindicate our thinking for the black race of our country.
