Director Biography - Jake Green

Jake grew up in Dallas, TX where he spent most of his childhood focused on sports, primarily basketball, until a knee injury changed the trajectory of his intended future career. After experimenting with architecture in college, twice, and dropping out, twice, he at last discovered his true passion, screenwriting, through a serendipitous brochure for a film school.

After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in screenwriting and directing, he moved west and kept expanding his script portfolio. Then when he met his future wife (an actress and stuntwoman), he moved back across the country to Atlanta, where he currently spends his days in less-crowded coffee shops continuing to follow his passion of writing.

Director Statement

I have always been a fan of historical films, even films that take place in the very near past. The Troubles was borne out of a desire to write a role for Emily. I saw her in a short film and immediately knew I wanted her to play an Irish girl. Soon after our first meeting the original idea came to me in the form of an old Irish song, “I’ll Tell Me Ma.” The song details the dating life of a very desirable young woman, but rather than dating a whole bunch of guys, I wanted her to be killing them during the lesser-known war of “The Troubles” in Northern Ireland. The script evolved from there.

It’s a part of history that a lot of people don’t know much about, especially my generation and younger; but it’s an extremely important part of history, especially around the topics of government control and the moral and ethical consequences of rebelling against authority. It brought about the existence of the modern car bomb as well as the issues of collateral damage, i.e. the deaths of innocent people in pursuit of a “greater” good.

This film is a blueprint for the feature film that we intend to create. You can view it as a very general outline of the penultimate scene of that film. It was incredibly fun to write and shoot, with the three days on set going very smoothly due to impeccable producing and the entire crew knowing and doing their jobs to perfection. The amount of time and energy that was donated to this film is overwhelming and I greatly appreciate the efforts of everyone involved.
