Director Biography - Andreas Toth

Born in Sweden to Hungarian parents, Andreas migrated to New Zealand with his parents and younger brother in 1989. Since then he has had two children from a past marriage, completed a university degree in Computer Systems Engineering, and operated his own software company.

After 10 plus years in the software industry, Andreas pursued a visual arts degree at Auckland’s Media Design School to study VFX. Part of the degree’s pre-requisite involved the production/directing of two short films. It was during this undertaking that Andreas realised filmmaking to be his true passion. The creative processes of filmmaking both invigorated and ignited him in ways that touched him deeply. After much reflection he subsequently withdrew from the degree and submitted an application to South Seas Film & Television School seeking to specialise in Script Writing and Drama Directing.

Andreas found that he flourished within the creative environment provided at South Seas where his passion for filmmaking was reaffirmed. He enjoyed all of the aspects that filmmaking encompasses and delighted in seeing both himself and his fellow students’ visions come to fruition.

At the completion of his time at South Seas, he is immensely looking forward to beginning his journey within the film industry with ultimate aims of establish himself as a respected director of Indie films.

Director Statement

It is with much delight that I bring to you my first 10-minute short, The Party, a short that didn’t get off to a good start as I was seriously impaired by a severe case of the flu during the pre-production phase then had other film commitments that needed my attention during the post-production phase not to mention the usual budget constraints that us indie filmmakers have to contend with. Sure, it’s not the film I originally envisaged, and it has several flaws, but it’s a film, nevertheless, and I hope you find some delight in watching it.
