The Green Heart of Guyana
In the heart of Guyana lies the Iwokrama reserve, home to indigenous peoples whom are leading the countries centre of conservation. Guyana holds one of the largest intact tropical rainforests in the world, and here we see renown scientists working with these local people of the region to try and protect this pristine wonder. Political pressure is making the fate of Guyana’s vast expanse of wilderness unknown and in this country the size of Britain, almost the entire area is covered in either tropical rainforest or savannah grassland. But this land is in danger of being infested with development that could fragment and erode the forests. Looking at the different taxa within the tropical habitat, we see how surveys are carried out on many different fauna, building a better understand of how the forests and all its inhabitants are responding to a changing environment and ultimately how the country is trying to use its wealth of resources without trying to exhaust them. Guyana is one of the last strongholds of intact tropical rainforests in the world. This is a unique opportunity where experience and knowledge can help preserve Guyana’s wildlife before it becomes yet another race to extinction.

Having grown up with a love for wildlife, photography and making short videos, Ben decided to turn his passion into a career first by moving away from home to study Zoology at the University of Aberdeen at the age of 17. A year later, Ben traveled to the remote country of Guyana in South America where he spent 4 weeks working with scientists and indigenous people towards the conservation of the land and its wildlife. Ben completed his first documentary, The Green Heart of Guyana, which has reached thousands of viewers from all over the world and is even being used for educational purposes in schools in Guyana. Ultimately, Ben plans to continue to work hard to showcase not only the world's beautiful wildlife and nature, but to uncover leading conservation movements and inspire viewers of all backgrounds to take a stand for our world of decreasing biological diversity.
