Experiencing Interruptions?

the flowers and sorrow he gave me

Inspired by moments of the Brazilian writer Gabriel Yared’s life and mixing storytelling and poetic declamations by the author himself, the film presents us the love overgrowing between two young man, Alex (Abismomento) and Luís (Marcos Sales), their comfortable couple routine, and explores which limits that love can support when, like dry flowers, it faces the hard and cold earth of deceptions and expectation breaches, with the city of Macapá, in ther Northern Brazilian State of Amapá, as background.

Director Statement

"the flowers and sadness he gave me" stems from a long-term relationship I had. It was a passion that was born in my teens, went through high school and lived until my early years as a young adult. It was from there that I began to really understand who I am and how to operate love and my own sexuality, being a man who likes other men. For this boy I loved, I wrote my first and silliest love poems. With the end of that relationship, with the death of the flowers, came sadness, and more poems, now with the ugliest and most shameful thoughts anyone can utter for someone who was once my sun and stars. Transforming these poems into a film, seeing the scenes relating to the words, was a way of making those feelings finally reach the end of their cycle, and I think that now, after having been transformed so many times by art, I am a better, more mature person, and finally I feel free.
