Kaz has had a keen interest in filmmaking since his childhood, always seizing the chance to pick up a camera and film
something. Through his travels throughout the world from an early age, he has gained an insight into social and political issues abroad. This has had a large influence on his filmmaking.
He began studying film in Perth, Western Australia, then moved to Melbourne to continue his studies, where he completed an Advanced Diploma of Film & Television, receiving the Best Film award at graduation. In 2015 Kaz commenced studies in 3rd year Film and Television at Swinburne University and wrote and directed "The Flower Girl", a film that aims to shed light on issues of human trafficking and child exploitation in South East Asia, shot on location in Bangkok, Thailand.
This year Kaz aims to find funding for a feature length version of "The Flower Girl" he wrote while completing his final year of film school.
‘The Flower Girl’ is a film about the tragedy of life and how abominable it can be for some. It takes the form of a poetic expression of the state of the world, where May’s memories are experienced from an objective point of view.
The initial idea for the film was formed after I became aware a lot of the children who sell flowers to tourists in Bangkok are bought from poor villages of neighbouring countries and aren't allowed to bed each night until they sell their quota of flowers. Given how far a reality from my own childhood it touched a nerve and, after completing a significant amount of research, I felt it was an extremely important topic to make a film about.
