Director Biography - Evie Demetriou, Antis Iakovou

Evie is a performance artist based in Cyprus.
Her work can be characterised by the desire to question the role of the person in society while challenging the boundaries of conventional dance. Through a multidisciplinary approach of dance, theatre, video and performance art Evie’s Demetriou work focuses on the role of the person in society posing questions about social stereotypes, gender, sexuality.

Evie has a diverse education background. She graduated with BSc in Land Management at the University of Reading and worked in the field of Urban Planning in London and Paris. She studied dance at the Trinity Laban Centre Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London and with scholarship at Limon Institute and Dance Space Centre in New York.As a performer she collaborated with Alain Buffard, Felix Ruckert, Rosemary Lee, Athina Vahla and with many Cyprus based choreographers.

She is a 2004 Danceweb scholarship recipient (Impulstanz Festival) and a travel grant recipient from the E-motional European Programme 2011-2014. She was an invited artist for the European project “Act Your Age” , a European collaboration between Centro per la Scena Contemporanea (Italy), Dutch Dance Festival (Holland) and Dance House Lemesos (Cyprus) where she collaborated with film maker Lucy Cash and exhibited the video installation "My Mountain" at Lanitis Foundation Limassol and Jan Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht.

Her staged performances as well as videodances have been presented in many international festivals across Europe and Africa.

Antis Iakovou studied BEng Mechanical Engineering at the University of Warwick UK. While he worked in different fields, he was more engaged in leading projects for the environmental sector and in particular renewable energy. He is currently restoring and renovating listed buildings following his vision to bring into life architectural and urban details that have been lost in time.
He is a close collaborator in the making of Evie's Demetriou performances through the concept creation and creative process as well as the technical director when touring the performances internationally.
