the Last Stop
This is a short experimental film exploring how film might come to be when musical and visual storytelling are created in tandem. The expressive contours of parenting, work, pandemic, survival, social justice and recovery are revealed through imagery and music including elements of death, routine, family, relationships, craving and freedom.

Jana King grew up in Eastern Montana with grasshoppers, Medicine Rocks, prairie people and badlands. She always had an interest in meaning and the esoteric. She found solace in books and the arts. In an effort to escape her small town, she overacheived in high school to the extent that a few years into higher ed, she found herself exhausted and disillusioned. She moved to Portland to be nearer to her father who was from Oregon. Jana earned her bachelors degree in Humanities at University of Montana in 2011 with Media Arts and Music minors. She went on to earn her Master of Arts in Music, Film Studies and Adult Higher Education in 2021. She is a filmmaker and musician as well as a mom, partner, and survivor of domestic violence.
The Last Stop is an experimental film created through pressures during the time of the 45th POTUS and the COVID19 pandemic which deals with many themes. There is an aspect of confronting unregulated capitalism, craving and competitive vibes by exploring a reality in which the creative world of children could be focused on and their artwork shared. The Last Stop is an experiment in working with rhythms in editing and an effort to allow the music score and image editing to occur together, with music as the primary language. I wrote, directed and scored this piece. Several talented and loving collaborators contributed during this outdoor pandemic film.
