Katong Gabii (That Night)
Katong Gabii (That Night) documents the lives of two survivors of the Roxas night market bombing in Davao City, Philippines on September 2, 2016. It centers on a vendor at the market who was severely injured, and a truck driver whose wife and son died while getting a massage. The documentary follows these two survivors a year after the tragedy.
The film has been shortlisted for the 2018 BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Student Film Awards, and is the sole representative of the Philippines and Southeast Asia. It has competed and screened in numerous film festivals.

Jeremy Luke Bolatag is a Filipino filmmaker who earned his film degree at the University of the Philippines. His short film, Katong Gabii, received international acclaim, including being shortlisted for the 2018 BAFTA Student Film Awards and nominated for Best International Short Film at the 2019 Melbourne Documentary Film Festival. It was most recently screened at the 2019 Visual Documentary Project in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan. Jeremy is an alumnus of Tribeca Film Institute and In-Docs’ If/Then 2020, One World Media’s Global Short Docs Forum 2020, and Asiadoc Creative Storytelling Lab 2020.
Being from Davao City himself, the director feels very passionate about the subject matter in Katong Gabii (That Night). The film tackles War on Terror, in Mindanao, Philippines under Martial Law and gives light on the current political climate in the country during President Rodrigo Duterte’s regime. This documentary also captures the Filipino spirit and resilience from a tragedy, and provides gender, religion, and social class analysis through its characters.
