Superfreaks
SUPERFREAKS is a workplace comedy about people who have been endowed with unimpressive superpowers and are relegated to menial work in the corporate office. The pilot follows our unlikely hero, Mike, as he begins working at Trigate Technology, a super-corporation that is more than meets the eye.

Jessica Curtis is a graduate of the Columbia College Chicago Musical Theatre program, where she also took on the roles of director and producer of the television department's student soap opera. She and her husband co-wrote and co-produced Superfreaks as their first foray into 'real' filmmaking after a long and varied career in theatre.
Superhero stories are all the rage these days, of course, but I wanted to find a story that was not yet being told. We wanted to explore the notion of the everyday hero – someone who feels like their potential is wasted, who perhaps does not have the most obvious skill set for a hero, but who wants to make a difference in the world. Then, of course, we crush him – because this is a comedy. But we also see him grow, and we see that he can be heroic without even realizing that he is making a difference.
I also love that we were able to find ways to tell a story about superpowers that requires very little in the way of special effects. There are a few nuggets here or there, but this is a story about people who happen to be super-powered, not a show about how many cool effects we can afford. (Spoiler alert: we can’t afford that many, anyway.)
I hope to explore this world and these characters more thoroughly in the coming months and years. They each have a story worth telling, and powers and connections back to the hero that are compelling and yearn to be explored. I hope you agree.
