Murat Arda GÜRSOY (Turkey) is a filmmaker, dramaturgist and script consultant. He received his BA and MA in Film and Television Studies from Istanbul Bilgi University and focused on dramatic writing and directing in particular. Afterwards, he started working as a script consultant and junior scriptwriter at Ay Yapım which is well-known tv production company in Turkey. Güneş, Ay ve Kadın/Sun, Moon and Woman (2022) is his debut short film and he is currently working on his second short film.
Cinema is experimentation for me. It is to offer perspective and point of view. It is the unique experience of predicting what characters will do under certain conditions. Those were my motivations for making this movie. I wanted to write an unconventional home invasion movie and tried to balance humour and tension while doing it. The main structure of the story was the miscommunication between father and daughter. I had the materials ready for this experiment: tension, chaos, humour, home invasion and miscommunication. What excited me was that these concepts, which I was constantly thinking about, would be gathered in a movie. It is something that excites me that the tragedy we watched from the point of view of Necip, the father, turned into an absurd home invasion. What will he do? How will he react? These questions were the experimental part of my movie. I wanted to see it from their point of view. I wanted to show that an ordinary plumbing problem is not that ordinary, but an expression of Necip's past regrets. I wanted to show how the dripping water took over the house like Lokman and his family. While working with my actors, we kept in mind the concepts such as the complex structure of family relations, lack of communication, fear of losing, and the collapse of the bourgeoisie. To sum up, I can describe this movie as a dramatically experimental movie of dualities and contrasts. Somewhere between the real and the abstract, between humour and tension, between the worker and the bourgeoisie...
