Chicago Filmmakers is proud to present “The Spirit of Chicago,” a monthly virtual screening series celebrating the diverse talent of Chicago’s film community. Our goal for this program is to connect local filmmakers with new audiences by providing accessible exhibition opportunities for films and video projects to be viewed widely.

Films of ALL genres are welcome to submit for FREE — insane comedies, touching dramas, high-energy music videos, odd animation, hot topic documentaries, neighborhood portraits, and any mind-expanding experimental visions.

Accepted films and video projects will be available to stream for one week on CF’s Vimeo channel as a private showcase. A donation between $3-20 is required to view the program. Proceeds will be split between selected filmmakers and CF.

***DATES & DEADLINES**
The Spirit of Chicago is a year-round virtual screening series with curated programs hosted online for one week each month. Submissions are accepted throughout the year with quarterly deadlines for curating programs.

March 8: Final Deadline for May/June
May 3: Final Deadline for July/August/September
August 2: Final Deadline for October/November/December

-- Films or video projects directed, written, and/or produced by Chicago-based filmmakers and former Chicagoans are eligible.
-- No length restrictions; shorts, features, featurettes, and episodic works are welcome to submit.
-- Chicago premieres are preferred but not required.
-- Entrants must provide a brief synopsis of the film, production credits, film stills, a downloadable trailer (if available), and social media handles.
-- Selected films and filmmakers are encouraged to promote the programmed screening through their own channels.
-- Entries submitted by quarterly deadlines may also be considered for future programming if curators see fit.

Filmmakers are required to provide CF with a downloadable H.264 file for online exhibition. Digital files may be shared through Dropbox, WeTransfer, or made accessible to download via FilmFreeway.

While there is no limit on film length, please reduce file size to less than 5GB for easy transfer via Wi-Fi.

By submitting, the entrant authorizes a public online screening of the work in the virtual screening series and agrees to provide an exhibition copy for a one-week viewing period. Entrant verifies they have the legal rights to publicly exhibit the film or video project and any copyrighted material used. Once a film or video project is submitted for entry, it may not be withdrawn. Entrant is responsible for ensuring the film or video project meets the Spirit of Chicago criteria and submission guidelines
