Friends Marcelo Lobo and Erllon Viegas joined forces to write and direct their first short film.
Marcelo comes from photography and productions for social media. He is also an avid cinematography and colorist student and Erllon has more than ten years of experience directing, writing and acting for theater.
One focused on the technical elements, the other on the emotional ones, both form a balanced duo who dream of continuing to work together on upcoming projects in the industry.
The short "Sozinha" was born from an experiment, bringing together memories of when we went through the pandemic, locked up at home, suffering immeasurable losses. Marcelo, one of the directors, spent 7 days in the hospital, during the pandemic, not knowing if he would return home alive. He knew that in some way he would like to incorporate this traumatic experience through his first short film. Erllon, the other director/screenwriter, went through a terrible experience when he caught the virus, also finding himself between life and death.
Without financial incentives, we were still able to prepare an extremely lean production, with a small production team and cast. The choice for a claustrophobic story takes us back to when we were in lockdown. This way we were able to film everything in just two days.
We want the audience to watch the film and not be sure from the beginning what Mayah is going through, so we made the character use drugs and alcohol to go through the trauma of losing her daughter Fernanda. The idea is that she navigates a fine line between what is real and what is the result of her psychic state.
A short film cannot waste time, but at the same time, we need to connect the audience with the pain and drama from the beginning, which is why we counted on a lot of help from one of our best friends, the actress Silvia Quadros. Experienced here in Brazil, she has worked on many huge productions and yet, because she believed in our talent, in the script, she agreed to bring our main character to life in a brilliant way.
The project could also work as a premise for a feature film, as well as an anthology series, where each episode involves someone who went through a drama during the pandemic. The theme has universal appeal, this helps all types of people immediately identify with the main character.
