SoCal ShortFest (Southern California Short Film Festival) is the only short film festival with a celebrity jury that screens the winners at the ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES®.

SoCal ShortFest welcomes short films of all genres to be reviewed solely by working industry professionals including: actors currently working in film and television; professional television film critics; award-winning producers of film, television, and the Broadway stage; magazine editors and more! We actively welcome submissions from women directors, LGBTQ directors, and directors of all backgrounds and beliefs. SoCal ShortFest will screen the winners at a red carpet event at the beautiful Linwood Dunn Theater at the ACADEMY OF MOTION PICTURE ARTS AND SCIENCES® in Hollywood. Our evening will begin with a red carpet step-and-repeat with media coverage-take your picture with a life-sized Oscar®! We will then present the awards where the winners will receive crystal trophy awards and prizes. Immediately following the awards we will screen the top films for everyone to enjoy. Finally, network and connect with your fellow filmmakers, actors and our celebrity jury panel at the official after party at the Hard Rock Cafe-right next to the Dolby Theater where the Oscars® take place. It's sure to be a fantastic night and we would love to have you there. We limit the number of entries we accept, so please submit early!

All top films will screen live at our red carpet event at the Linwood Dunn Theater at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences® in Hollywood with our celebrity jurors in attendance (schedules permitting).

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The celebrity jury may choose to present additional awards at their discretion.

You may submit multiple entries (with different films), but you must complete a separate entry form and pay the fee for each film.

Films must have been completed within the last three years.

We only accept short films under 30 minutes in length.

You must own the rights to your film, the music included in it and have permission from everyone appearing in your film to show their work.

Non-English films will be accepted but must have English subtitles.

The Academy® reserves the right to change the date of the event. The festival organizers reserve the right to hold the event at one of our backup locations which are: Director’s Guild Theater® and the Screen Actor’s Guild® Theater.

The festival may use parts of your film for promotional purposes. These may include: trailer/scenes/poster/stills etc.

Entry fees are nonrefundable.

SELECTION
All films will be screened by working industry professionals. The semi-finalists will be reviewed personally by the festival director and the celebrity jury.
