GO BIG & STAY HOME!
SOCAPA and Catamount Arts are joining forces once again to bring you our much-anticipated-annual Film Slam, but this year we are GOING BIG by STAYING HOME!

GO BIG
Let's face it, staying home is the "big" (as in responsible) thing to do right now, which means our annual Film Slam must go virtual, viral and global! We are opening the event up to families "living and filming in isolation" anywhere in the world. We expect participation by a historic number of family teams. More participation means an even larger online audience. Our prizes are getting supersized too, with cash and scholarship awards valued at over $6,500 and counting!

STAY HOME
Due to the Coronavirus health emergency, nations across the globe are urging their citizens to stay at home. Let’s all SLAM the CURVE by staying home and making movies with our families. Do your part, and make some art!

As always, the event is FREE to all!

Teams
Teams must have at least one member under the age of 18 and be comprised of household members or remote collaborators only. At no time should a team elicit physical assistance from people outside their household.

Filming Restrictions
You may film inside your house or on your property, but do not leave your household. If our judges see a public space or location outside your household they will flag it for disqualification. If you have safe access to a space that our judges may consider outside the household, please send us an email at info@socapa.org explaining the situation. Remember, our goal is to create within isolation.

You may collaborate remotely with friends and family. For example, your friend films a scene at their home and digitally sends you the video file to edit on your home computer. We love this creative collaboration and encourage it. But remember, there should be no filming in person with people outside your household.

Equipment
Use what you have - do not borrow. Cellphones are great! Keep it simple and source only what is in your household. We're not judging video quality, we're judging story.

Script Requirements
Each week you will receive new required script elements that will need to be integrated into your final film for it to be eligible for prizes. In the past, these have included a prop, a sound clip, genre, and line of dialogue. Use these items creatively to score more points for your film.

Length
Final films should be 1 to 3 minutes in length. All films must be produced, edited, exported and submitted during the 72-hour period. Films submitted after the deadline will not be screened.

Content/Legal
All films must be PG. Basically: don’t produce anything you wouldn’t want your grandmother or younger siblings to see. Prohibited content includes (but may not be limited to) drug use, sex, graphic violence, and defamatory statements. Additionally, no copyrighted materials should appear within students’ films. If any of these rules are broken, the films will be disqualified at the sole discretion of the Film Slam judges. Any assigned props/locations/themes must be used in the film.

Film Submission
Final films should be uploaded to YouTube. Send us the link upon upload and we'll handle the rest!

Unexpected Developments
Unfortunately, we are all too familiar with unexpected developments. We will be monitoring updates from the CDC and the federal government for any new guidelines or recommendations that affect the event.
