Experiencing Interruptions?

Sature

Sature was filmed in an empty space in Vancouver's historic Chinatown. Built to house a restaurant that never happened, the space has been vacant since the beginning, 30 years ago. Shortly after filming, after resting for so long, it was converted to artist spaces for rent. I'm struck by the quiet, almost imperceptible life that exists in a space, "unused" for so long... and in love with the lingering ghosts of activity. What does it mean to fill this space? Was it every really empty?

We acknowledge that this was filmed on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples including the territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
