Nicholas Dieter studied Film and Sociology at the University of São Paulo, Brazil (2005). His early projects, still in Brazil, were documentaries on popular culture and instrumental music. In Argentina, he completed a Master's in Dramaturgy at the National University of the Arts (2017) and has since been dedicated to fiction projects, both in film and theater. The key theme of his work is the topic of unrequited love, influenced by Anton Chekhov and Ryusuke Hamaguchi. He is the screenwriter and director of Res (2020), short film (14’); Partir (2022), short film (24’); Si hablamos de amor (2023), short film (14’); Ritinha (2024), short film (12’); among others.
The main idea in SATISFIED was to work on heartbreak as the only possibility to think about love: The pain of an expropriation, the impossibility of controlling the desire of the other. Matilde, the protagonist, could think: "I composed this song with my friend Pedro, whom I desire, at a moment of deep pain. However, my best friend, who set her sights on my suitor, deliberately decides to present it to an audience of acquaintances, singing the song accompanied by my ex-boyfriend Joaquin who also arranged the song." Natalia exposes her friend's pain and intimacy and on top of that, steals her suitor, Pedro. I was interested in constructing Matilde's expressive state in this short film: From what place does she gather the courage to sing the music with her ex-boyfriend Joaquin? In a dramatic comedy atmosphere, how does Matilde accumulate frustrations and desires for overcoming and resilience when feeling betrayed in public?
