Daniel Drummond is an award-winning Brazilian director, writer and animator.
His animation debut, “Chiaroscuro”, won a Student Academy Award in 2015, qualifying for the 88th Oscars and screening in international festivals such as Annecy and Anima Mundi.
His live-action debut, “A Foreman”, earned him a second nomination for the Student Academy Awards in 2017 and played numerous festivals, winning a Special Jury Mention at the historic Guadalajara International Film Festival, and the Panavision Future Filmmaker Award at Hollyshorts.
In 2018, Daniel saw his graduate thesis film “Rust” selected for the Berlin International Film Festival script lab. The film went on the receive production grants from the Annenberg Foundation, the Caucus Foundation and the Leo Freedman Foundation.
He is currently developing his first feature.
Everything around us is in a state of decay. We can see it in the mold, muck and grime. "Rust" is about what happens when our bodies become the norm rather than the exception.
The seed of the film was a single image: a man, kneeling by a dog, surrounded by the twisted metal of a auto salvage scrapyard.
The striking image, which I witnessed years ago in my native Brazil, never left me. Yet I couldn’t pinpoint what exactly conjured it back into my mind every so often. The story of "Rust" came from trying to understand the forces that brought that person to that place at that time.
