Experiencing Interruptions?

running water

A film inspired by “The Big Shave” by Martin Scorsese.
Running water is a metaphor for tears.

This film focuses on the struggle faced by women of colour, the combs, the bible, the bathroom, the black and white effect, they are all a metaphor. This film is made in way that allows different interpretations for any viewer. I want it to communicate with different stories that women of colour can share, and their different life experiences.

Growing up in Lesotho, raised by my grandmother and mother, i have bore witness to struggles they faced. Not only in my family, but Africa as a whole, we are still in society where women are forced to be silent, and not have any views, forced in the corners of darkness and silence. Limpho who stars in this film is not meant to speak, this symbolises the “silence”, the song ‘four women’ by Nina Simone symbolises people who speak out for women, and with this film i hope i can be a Nina Simone.

I hope, every woman can see a piece of themselves in this short short film, and hopefully they will understand their power.
