Rio Negro is it's people
The Anavilhanas National Park, in the Rio Negro Amazon, is the environment for presenting characters living in the tenuous orbit between the city Manaus and riverside communities on the banks of this historic river. The film explores the contemporary meaning of being at and growing up by the banks of a river with the power of Rio Negro, submerged in a dense forest and surrounded by global elements of today; the need to leave, the forgotten desire to return, the choice to stay, the immensity and the time of the river, form an intuitive and imaginary narrative set to suggest deeply local stories that serve the reflection on human life.

Juliana Barros, documentary and audiovisual producer, signs the direction of the documentaries: "O Rio Negro São As Pessoas" (2019) and "Sem Fastio: Você tem fome de quê?" (2010).
In the direction of production she directed: "Empate" (documentary/ 2018), "Nokun Txai- Nossos Txais" (TV series 13 episodes / 2019), "O Olhar que vem de Dentro" (TV series 13 episodes / 2019) and "Sabá" (documentary / 2018).
To make a movie talking about the people who live on riverside of the Rio Negro (Black River) has always been an old desire of mine.
The intriguing and paradoxical relationship between Manaus as a metropolis (with it’s 400 global manufacturing industries) and the riverside communities, immersed in a deep contact with nature alongside the beautiful Anavilhanas Archipelago has formed, for me, the perfect narrative thread of the documentary.
The production is an opportunity to bring a fresh new vision about the Amazon, based on the riverine women’s perspective, on the local children and theirs extraordinary talents and on the indigenous’ heritage. This piece of art is to reflect on the marginalized and somehow ignored conditions of a local population that holds an enormous value for the Brazilian cultural diversity and for our biodiversity conservation.
