Riley Sugars is a Melbourne-based filmmaker, who works as a director, producer and writer.
In 2023, he served as Producer and Assistant Director on feature film Lenore, which is currently in Post Production, as well as serving as a Series Producer on four part comedy series 'Til You Make It and producer on short film For My Mother.
His 2022 foray into comedy, Hatchback, was a festival hit, playing at over 20 festivals and awarded him Best Director at CineFest OZ 2022. The film opened both St Kilda Film Festival and Perth Revelations International Film Festival, and was nominated for Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA) for Best Short Film.
Riley also served as a Producer and festival strategist for Ashes (2023), which was also nominated for Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards (AACTA) for Best Short Film.
His period drama Rabbits (2019) was an Official Selection at the BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival. He has many short film festival screenings and awards in short international film festivals - in both the USA and the UK.
Riley worked on the Australian feature film Wog Boys Forever (2022), Sundance Award winner Shayda (2023) as well as multiple Australian Reality TV shows, features and narrative television.
He hopes one day make feature films himself.
