Rêverie 11:12
A young woman who is lost and unwilling to let go of the past embarks on a midnight quest to Chinatown looking to turn back time to escape from the present. On this excursion she meets a mysterious woman from the past who is unbound to the rules of this reality. This elusive trickster figure crosses boundaries of time and space to whisper words of wisdom and plant seeds of hope -- all the while, the young heroine desperately searches a path to her memories throughout a night of dream like illusions, swimming in the nostalgia, facing the truth of tragedy head-on and learning to let go.

Previously experienced in film festival organization and theatre production, Beryl is now venturing into the creative realm of the industry. Rêverie 11:12 is Beryl Liu's first directorial short film as part of her Drama & Theatre undergraduate thesis under the supervision of Professor Denis Salter from McGill University (Montreal). Currently a graduate student at NYU (New York), Beryl is studying film, theatre and performance to continue her aspirations in acting, producing and directing.
Rêverie 11:12 is my first attempt to articulate the theoretical frameworks I've learned throughout my theatre major, specifically inspired by the Trickster figure from Canadian Indigenous theatre. This is merged with my artistic and aesthetic approaches and my constant interest to creatively explore themes of time, dreams and reality. This short could not be possible without the immense hard work from a committed crew of dedicated students.
