reverberating interferences – explorations into thingness
Subject of this film experiment as a documentary essay (~ 18 min, 2021) is the performative research project, reverberating interferences – explorations into thingness, which filmed under the limitations of Covid-19 in late October 2020. Through patterns of movement and countermovement put in motion by bodies—human and nonhuman—the work intertwines indeterminacy (Barad) and the uncertainty of change (Rose). The performative research presentation intends to amplify ongoing interference reverberations before they become sedimentary and ingrained in planetary memory. These interferences, whether acknowledged or ignored, are expressions of human and non-human planetary others, which encompass all mattering forms. The research considered 'noise' as a kind of voicing that is opaque, but by no means negligible. Finally, implying that even what western modernity's metaphysics has claimed as non-belonging and inconsequential still matters in its distorted and redirected forms. If the idea that things influence 'us' by the way 'we' shape them is not extended to the global level, acknowledging the effects on earth others through symptoms of extinction and catastrophe, it is of limited understanding. Acoustic signals of resonant interferences initiated in movement-based intra-actions (Barad) are enacted in sensory device play, making them perceptible as sounds, voices, and noises. They appear as abstracted forms of motion in and across matter, as generally in water, air, climate, soil, plants, animals, and humans. To make these reverberations of interferences audible aimed to allow them to seep and condensate into an awareness that towards a process of un/learning of the known towards new common ways.
