Director Biography

Lloyd Edgar grew up in rural Northern Ireland with the dream of telling stories. Leaving school, he entered the world of commercial videography working at events round the world. At the age of nineteen, Lloyd began work on what would be his debut short film, 'What We Left Behind', spending two years refining every detail.

Since then, Lloyd has gone on to develop a passion for production design, working with a local contemporary, John Reavey, on his crowdfunding success 'Reavey Brothers' - set in a mid-70s Northern Ireland torn by conflict.

Director Statement

This is a story woven into the fabric of my generation. With the new ability to be connected to anyone at any time, our definition of love has changed. Are these digital connections enough to sustain a relationship?

As a filmmaker, I am obsessed with the intangible qualities of the human experience. While watching What We Left Behind, I want the viewer to feel and experience the involuntary nostalgia that follows heartbreak. These invasive thoughts permeated my mind after the conclusion of a similar relationship in my own life.

Inspired by the engrossing moody sound of modern horror cinema, the soundtrack of the film was a critical detail to convey the distressing nature of the story. The score was written for a sextet of players and provides an ever-present aural fog looming over the characters.

'What would drive someone to let go of the person they love?' So often in movies we see relationships with clear good and bad on either side, I wanted to tell a different kind of story.
