For children who lose their parents to death or a military deployment, there's a level of sympathy and understanding.
When a child loses a parent because the parent is serving time, that level of empathy just doesn't exist.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL

Dear Mr. Sessions,
It's one thing to incarcerate the most dangerous of criminals, but when one goes for that big fish, a lot of smaller, harmless fish get trapped in the net as well.
As Senator Bernie Sanders so eloquently stated "We cannot fix our criminal justice system if corporations are allowed to profit from mass incarceration. Companies should not be allowed to make a profit by building more jails and keeping more Americans behind bars."
Yes, those who commit violent crimes must pay for their actions, but on this Father's Day I ask that you show compassion and wisdom for the harmless ones, the ones that WILL get swept up in your net. Along with incarceration must come rehabilitation. You can be the one to finally break this cycle of intergenerational incarceration. Happy Fathers Day Mr. Sessions.
