SYNOPSIS:
Traveling the world filming a documentary about his former students, retired professor John Henry discovers that one of them, Marita, has disappeared under mysterious circumstances, leaving only a postcard from Salzburg with the words "Remember our games of hide and seek."

Now the film goes from documentary to documystery, as someone else is also searching for Marita--a Man from her shaded past who will stop at nothing to find her.

Their quest takes them from the cobblestone streets of Salzburg onto the Great Wheel of Vienna, through the steaming red light district of Amsterdam, finally plunging them into the chaos of a hundred thousand revelers at Stuttgart's annual Volksfest.

Here, John Henry and the Man come face to face for a final confrontation. And when the truth about Marita is revealed--it comes at a higher price than anyone could have ever imagined.

For Our Students...

Two years ago, I retired from teaching, having spent over 30 years as a professor in the field of filmmaking, acting, directing and writing. It has been a longtime dream of mine to travel the world visiting my former students and making a documentary on "Where Are They Now?"

The dream materialized one year ago when I embarked on a filmmaking journey to London, Stockholm, Oslo, Salzburg, Vienna, Stuttgart and Amsterdam. I interviewed over 50 former students and found that most of them were suffering from a similar dilemma: The lack of acting work, particularly film acting jobs in their country. Many of them, discouraged with the state of the film industry in their homelands, dropped out, changed vocations, or gave up. They were left without a sense of direction to their lives.

This made me realize that making a documentary about my students was not enough. They were actors who simply wanted to get back into the world of acting. And that became my new mission. I wrote a story around them and adapted it into a screenplay (with partner Mark Neal Mockett, who was Supervising Editor at NYFA.) Then with script in hand, I withdrew $30,000 from my retirement fund and went off to make our film.

The screenplay is based on true events: Visiting former students throughout Europe and Scandinavia. But here the documentary begins to take on its own life. What started out as a straight-forward doc, soon becomes a search for a missing student, Marita, who disappeared the night before her graduation and has not been heard from since.

And now, one year and two maxed credit cards later, we've made a new kind of DocuMystery in which all the characters are playing themselves (or variations on their real selves) under plotted circumstances.

...Where is she now? gave the students and me a rare opportunity to share the thing we love most, making movies. Fingers crossed, this is only the beginning for our modest group. It better be. A sequel film script is already in the works.

If our students have learned anything from this experience, it's that you have to make your own opportunities if you really want to succeed. They'd say the risk is well worth it.
