Without Regret

As an artist and filmmaker, Murphy has always been drawn to two polar opposite styles: comedy & tragedy. “With my films I want to leave you crying. Either with laughter or with heartfelt empathy for the character’s plight. But either way I want my films to affect you, stick with you, relate to your own human experience.”

Without Regret marks Murphy’s return to drama after 4 successful seasons Happy Hour Sketch Comedy. In the later two seasons of this web series, he found himself less and less making traditional style sketches, as his artistic expression morphed into a style that more resembled short film. Relying heavily on his favorite comedy influences, these “web shorts” would find humor in topics that were usually considered too deep or intellectual for traditional sketch comedy. Highlights include topics ranging from modern politics, poking fun at the arts and entertainment industry, and the hazards of modern romance.

At the age of 5, he started acting in theater, eventually winning an Inland Empire Theater League Award for his portrayal as the title role in "Tom Sawyer”. With puberty approaching, film captured his attention and turned into a lifelong passion. During this period it would stretch his ability as a guerrilla filmmaker with each new project being evermore ambitious. Twenty student film later, his last film made while still in High School, “Repossessed" won Best Under 18 Film at Shriekfest Hollywood. These years would solidify his confidence on set and behind the camera.

Post High School, Murphy moved to Colorado. There he became involved with the local film festival and also became a four year regular performer, writer, director & choreographer at the Backstage Theater of Breckenridge, Colorado (Winner: Colorado Theater League's 2010 Outstanding Regional Theater; a season where Murphy wrote, directed & starred in his first original play).

In 2010, Murphy then moved back to California to pursue a career in film. While continually pushing his own artistic vision forward with his writing and directing, Murphy has also acted in the independent feature Hysperia, been a Director of Photography on several sets run by other directors, and helped to produce the first season of High the web series. He has written 10 feature screenplays, some of which have been produced, some have been optioned awaiting production, while others are available to read upon request. Currently, he has two shorts and feature in pre-production.
