April 1 – July 20, 2023 (for all the other categories)

Eligibility:
Your submission should be an animated film, meaning that it is produced frame-by-frame using various techniques other than live-action or animation mixed with live-action;
it should be completed after January 1st, 2021;
it should be no longer than 25 minutes;
it should have English subtitles included if the film has dialogues;
your submission should be eligible for one of the following categories:
- STUDENT FILM = your first step in animated short film directing, produced at a high school, various workshops, university education, or any other training program as a student including DIY productions (The director should be older than 15 years old)
- GRADUATION FILM = your BA, MA, or DLA school-leaving short film
- First film = your first animated short film production made without an educational background
- CHILDREN’S FILM = any animated short film made for children (age 3-12) if it falls in any of the above categories (Student Film, Graduation film, First Film) or it is made by an up-and-coming director under the age of 40
- FILMS FOR TEENAGERS = films suitable for teenagers (aged 13–18) submitted for any of the above short film categories (Student film, Graduation film, First film) or made by an up-and-coming director under the age of 40 will also be considered by the programmers for the PrimaTeen competition category
- PRIMANIMA MASTERS COMPETITION = category for established filmmakers, all films are eligible which do not fit in the categories above; directors who previously competed in our festival and they are not first-time filmmakers anymore are encouraged to submit their films to this category; if you are teaching animation in an institution, please note it in your bio
Submission:
If your film matches all the above requirements, please do the following:
fill out the online entry form on Primanima’s website or submit your film through FilmFreeway and send your film for pre-jurying by providing a video streaming link (Vimeo, Youtube, Google Drive or Dropbox).
Terms of Conditions:
By submitting your film to Primanima you confirm that you own the rights of the film or you acquired full permission to submit, and you agree to the followings:
The public screening(s) of your film(s) during the festival.
The use of photographic material or other documents related to films entered to the festival solely within the framework of the festival and its promotion in the media.
You can optionally agree to the followings:
(1)the use of excerpts of maximum of 3 minutes or 10% of running time for publicity purposes of Primanima, (2) grant the festival the right, if the circumstances around the festival are changing and a physical event is not an option, to have an online screening of my film (on a password-protected platform with geoblocking.), right holders will be informed about the status of the festival in a timely manner, (3) additional screenings of your film(s) in the follow-up events of Primanima promoting and circulating the festival results (e.g. screening of award-winning films); for any additional use of your film(s) besides the above cases the festival organizers will request a written permission from the filmmaker or producer
Selection:
The official selection will be announced in the last week of August 2023. Films will be selected by the festival’s pre-selection jury. The chosen films will make up Primanima’s official selection in the following categories:
short film competition with three main subcategories (student films, graduation films, first films), children’s film competition, PrimaTeen film competition, Primanima Masters competition, Night Moves (panorama programme, but films are eligible for an Audience Award)
There will be no verbal or written critique given on films submitted. Notifications will be sent to those competitors, whose films have been selected for the competition by August 10th. We will not notify those competitors whose film was not selected to participate in the competition.
Screening files:
If your film is selected to Primanima (either competition or out-of-competition programme), you should send us the screening copy and additional materials of the film:
Only high-quality digital video files are accepted as a screening copy (format: Quicktime ProRes 422 or Quicktime H.264Dimensions: 1920 × 1080 or higher).
Subtitles: in the case of films with dialogue, please make sure that the film has English hardsubs and attach a preferably time-coded dialogue list in .srt or .txt format separately for translation purposes, HQ videos can be sent by Wetransfer / Dropbox / as downloadable Vimeo files
The screening copy must arrive by the 20th of August 2023.
Juries:
Primanima’s organizing staff will decide on the composition of the international juries made up of 3 members. No jury member must be in any way involved in the production or distribution of completion films.
Organizers and Patronage
Primanima World Festival of First Animations is organized by Primanima Ltd and Manifeszt (Professional Association of Hungarian Artists of Animated Films).
Please also submit the following information: the country of origin, school/production company name, synopsis, and detailed credits to make sure we have an easier job when we are working with the catalogue information.
