Experiencing Interruptions?

Por Una Mascara

A young man uses Grindr for the first time. He’s bewildered by a relentless flurry of desire, desperation and disparity. Amidst the masked chaos, he finds a man that catches his eye. 'Por Una Mascara' offers a cheeky commentary on boys who like boys.

This segment originally featured in the feature documentary 'I'm Not Gay' (2021), which explores power and masculinity in modern day Australia through the eyes of a gay man. However, it was decided to release this and another music video segment - 'Capitalista' - separately given their cultural and entertainment value.

Director Biography - Nathan Short

I began developing 'I'm Not Gay' at the end of 2018 after several years working as a videographer, choreographer, and musician. What started as a research project about gay men soon evolved into an adventure of self enquiry. Over the course of three years, I wrote, composed, choreographed, shot, edited, produced, and directed this proudly diverse Australian film.

This segment was strongly influenced by my personal experience as a gay man. It makes light out a very real issue for many gay men - loneliness.
