Plintik
"Plintik" is a short biographical documentary regarding Salbiah Wir. She was given the nickname “Plintik” by her mother when she was young and has been commonly known as that since. She is known to be someone who is strong as she barely cried, preserved on and stayed patient despite the life challenges she had gone through. Married at a young age of 13 to her husband who is 20 years older than her, she got her first child at the age of 15. Life was difficult for her, especially after the death of her husband, as she faced poverty while supporting her 15 children. She had to work several jobs to earn enough income for her family, two of which was tailoring clothes and selling Malay delicacies. Her hard work paid off as her children grew up to be someone who is successful not only in terms of education and career wise but also in terms of moral and values. She also has aged gracefully and still inculcating morals and values to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Being a great mother that she is, she was awarded Jamiyah Exemplary Mother Award for the year 2000.

Nur Munawarah is a Singaporean filmmaker with an interest in getting to know people and their life stories. Her interest in film started after watching her brother worked on his film projects and her appreciation for film steadily grew after learning about it in school. Graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Art with a Diploma in Screen Media, she directed and produced her first documentary “Plintik” as her Final Year Project.
My grandmother, Salbiah Wir, took care of me when I was young and who has thought me not only skills such as cooking and sewing but also the importance of moral and values. I would have never imagined the tough life she had. My awareness of her difficult past only came to light a few years ago when I sat down and watch home videos with her. I listened to her life stories and tears began to whelmed her eyes but she refuses to cry. It saddens me to see someone so strong like her, too strong to a point where she couldn't cry. She respected her parents so much that she obeyed what they wanted and have her youth taken away. Despite the difficulties she faced, she taught her children well and brought them up to be sophisticated men and women.
Her strength and her life story inspired me to do a documentary regarding her as I know that there will be many lessons learned from her story. Furthermore, she is someone who loves to share her words of wisdom. This is my way of thanking her for the great things she did for me and the family.
