Nadi is an android with citizenship, who earns the right to adopt two children, David and Lina. However, a sensationalist politician, and digital influencer, brings up several controversies about the case, in order to gain popularity for his candidacy for Senate president. A misunderstanding leads David to run away and get involved in several adventures, consequently leading Nadi to decide between keeping her citizenship or informing the authorities about the escape. The film is a genuinely Brazilian science fiction, which takes place in Minas Gerais, one of the most relevant political scenarios in the history of Brazil.

Animation Cinema and Digital Arts Graduate from UFMG, in 2015-2018. Son of a truck driver and a teacher, he had his first contact with animation cinema through TV, like many children, and later, access to festivals. The Udigrudi World Animation Exibition (MUMIA) was one of the events that aroused him and to which he later collaborated. He has worked as a screenwriter on several TV series, and in the production of several animated shorts. Igor Bastos is currently the youngest director in the history of Brazil to direct an animated feature film, a title he achieved with the movie Placa-Mãe (Motherboard).
"I affectionately define the film as 'Sci-Fi from the Countryside.' I wanted to envision a future Minas Gerais, something that we don't have visually defined. This presented a challenge because the idea of the future is often associated with something apocalyptic or oriental, with all those LEDs." The filmmaker embraces this difficulty to create a universe that represents various eras. "The city may evolve, but some buildings are left behind; we find 19th-century structures alongside 20th-century ones. We wanted to capture that: a Brazil that seems to move in fits and starts," analyzes Bastos.
In the film about the robot that gains citizenship and adopts two children, we will see the Santa Tereza Viaduct in downtown Belo Horizonte, as well as the Pontilhão, one of the postcard-worthy landmarks of Divinópolis. Another nostalgic tourist icon is the Maria-Fumaça, a steam train that still operates short routes in the state. This temporal dialogue is also reflected in the techniques used in "Placa-Mãe," which range from traditional 2D to 3D.
According to Igor, the story takes place in the near future, where advanced robotics allows the creation of robots with advanced artificial intelligence. Nadi is one of these robots, but she is special because she goes beyond artificial aspects and lets her emotions speak louder. This leads her to gain citizenship and become the first robot with equal rights to humans.
"With all the aspects that make Nadi a special robot, she decides, during a meeting that takes place in a sort of landfill, to adopt two siblings. This is where equally relevant issues come into play – such as artificial intelligence, the long waiting lists for adoption, and the difficulties that some children face in being adopted. The children that Nadi encounters are two black siblings who have been on the adoption waiting list for a long time," Igor explains.
"I was extremely happy with the result, and I'm sure that people who watch the film will also enjoy it very much. After all, robotics and AI are currently very present in our daily lives, as well as diversity and inclusion," he concluded.
