Pedro Pinheiro (Pier Zapfen) is a multidisciplinary artist and noise maker whose work explores the intersections of ecology, waste, nature, and the human experience. Born in Porto 1974 Portugal. Resident in Brazil since 2017.
Pinheiro’s works reflect themes such as adaptation, identity, and the duality between light and darkness, noise and silence. With interdisciplinary approach, he combines unconventional techniques with a strong sensory presence, offering immersive experiences to his audience.
A visual artist and audio visual performer with a background in Intermedia Arts, graphic design and audiovisual production, he explores the intersection of the senses through installation, painting, collage, sculpture, drawing, video art, sound and new media performance, using elements and phenomena from nature to communicate emotional experiences and socio-cultural ironies.
His visual and auditory compositions often feature non-linear narratives and surrealist aesthetics, challenging traditional storytelling with abstract yet emotionally resonant languages.
Throughout his career, he has received awards and grants, including the Catarinense Cinema Award and the LPG D+ Grant, both granted in 2023 by Fundação Catarinense de Cultura, as well as the Paulo Gustavo Audiovisual Law Grant - Imbituba 2023. In 2017, he was awarded an artistic residency by Companhia de Teatro de Braga (Portugal).
Pinheiro has participated in various artist collectives, as an artist, curator and cultural producer for avant-garde experimental events and art shows. His work has been exhibited in public spaces, galleries, artist-run spaces, and cultural events in various countries where Pinheiro has lived, worked, or traveled, including Portugal, England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Morocco, India, and Brazil.
Fluent in five languages and with extensive international experience, Pedro develops projects that integrate ecology, technology, and culture. His practice combines multi-sensory installations with organic elements, uniting sensory aesthetics and social impact.
