Experiencing Interruptions?

Paranal Observatory - Atacama Desert

The VLT (very large telescope), located in the Antofagasta Region at 2,600 meters above sea level on Paranal Hill, is one of the most advanced visible light observatories in the world. Composed of four Unitary Telescopes (UTs), four Auxiliary Telescopes (ATs), a telescope designed exclusively to track the sky with visible light (VST) and the Visible & Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy (VISTA). The UT and AT telescopes can work together to form the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI).
