American Millennial Salvation
VERSE 1:
I'm the product of a flawed system,
I'm the answer to all your questions,
But no one asked you so I must abstain
If you need me I'll be on my fifteen-minute break.
Freshly polished from my undergrad,
Tell you bout the work experience I had
I'm a seed for all these great ideas,
Too bad sun and water are my biggest fears.
PRECHORUS:
My tank's on empty
I'm running on fumes,
please someone help me,
CHORUS:
I am my own work of fiction,
How is this under my twenty-four-year-old jurisdiction?
Am I really all we've got?
'Cause if I am we're not
going to be the source of anyone's
American Millennial Salvation,
Just leave me alone
VERSE 2:
I look good in all my grown-up clothes.
Got a briefcase and a freshly-brown nose,
I know all the terminology,
to disguise my incompetency.
Don't be distracted by my fresh young face,
I assure you I don't know my place,
Rising earlier and running late,
Don't know how much longer I can fake it.
PRECHORUS:
Let's stop working,
We're trying too hard,
and it's not working,
CHORUS:
I am my own work of fiction,
How is this under my twenty-four-year-old jurisdiction?
Am I really all we've got?
'Cause if I am we're not
going to be the source of anyone's
American Millennial Salvation
BRIDGE:
Just wake up and show up
Don't throw up just stand up
For the sermons you preach.
Feeling down don't back down
Don't look down there's no doubt
that you're all that we've got
So we're fucked, 'cause you've got no solution.
CHORUS (Reprise):
I wrote my own work on fiction,
It's titled my resumé,
It's full of vague contradictions,
and so if you don't mind
I think I will resign
claim my spot in unemployed majority,
Of American millennial Damnation,
On my parents' couch.
OUTRO:
You fuck the world up and then you complain
about my tattoos and the piercings on my face.
You fuck the world up and then you complain,
How slow I'm running but it's not my race.
