Director Biography - Rex New, Thia Schuessler

Cynthia "Thia" Schuessler graduated magna cum laude from the USC School of Dramatic Arts where she dabbled in writing and directing. She was introduced to production skills such as editing and cinematography at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, but her true focus was always acting. Schuessler met long-time partner Rex New when she was cast in the student production of one of his plays. New earned a BFA in screenwriting, and a few years out of college (when they realized they couldn't rely only on their agents and managers), they decided to collaborate on a short film script in which Schuessler could star. In 2015, Schuessler & New co-founded Shy Ruby Productions (after crediting the not-yet-official production company in 2013 on their first short film HOUSESITTER). Shy Ruby was named after their dog, and the production team consists of members of Ruby's pack: New, Schuessler, her sister Sarah Schuessler, and Sarah's boyfriend/composer Ben Stanton. Since creating the LLC, the Shy Ruby team has released one short film per year.

Director Statement

With "n.y.e" we were trying to capture the pressure we place on ourselves to have a special New Year's Eve. I think we can all relate to Laura's panic and desperation when she realizes she's on her own on a night that no one wants to spend alone.
