#40Seconds- Be a Buddy for Suicide Prevention

Every single life lost to suicide is one too many . Suicide is more a collective tragedy then just an individual tragedy. It's estimated that over 800000 people die by suicide and that there are many suicide attempts for each death. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that 1 person dies every 40 seconds from suicide. Unfortunately suicide all too often fails to be prioritized as a major Public Health Issue.
The animated video entitled '#40 Seconds- Be a Buddy for Suicide Prevention', is based on the 2019 theme for World Mental Health Day that was '40 Seconds of Action'. The short animated video very simply tries to highlight the various circumstances that can cause distress in an individual and also tries to unveil the fact that even though at times the circumstances may seem small or silly but they may combine to eventually cause great amount of distress among people. However, the main objective of the video is to throw light on how many simple acts of compassion that takes less or little more than 40 seconds can actually help the distressed person to heal. The blue mark in the animated person signifies the psychic pain level.
The rising of the blue mark from feet to hand denotes the level of psychic pain and sadness undergone by the person. The decrease in the blue mark in the animated person signifies how different acts of simple compassion shown by others and help from mental health professional at times of crisis can enhance healing. The video acknowledges and tries to raise awareness to the fact that with timely and effective interventions, treatment, support and a little care from each one of us can help in preventing both suicide and suicide attempts.
