Night's Pass

In flight through the barren winter landscape and unequipped to survive, a man and two boys take shelter in an abandoned barn. The man's efforts to create some protection for the children are as taxing as they are futile, and as he struggles, the watchful older boy begins to pull away from the group. He ventures off alone into the darkness, and the man goes to search for him.

Director Statement

It was early in the pandemic and I was busy taking care of my 3 young children when the first ideas for this film began to take shape in my mind. The constant and familiar responsibilities of parenthood were amplified by the arrival of Covid, and the maternal anxieties and fears that normally maintain their steady simmer somewhere beneath the surface all leapt to my attention with force. As the surreality of that time took hold, I got in the habit of escaping to this seed of an idea, walking through a few images and moments that I could see in my mind of my father and children in the winter landscape. A story began to form, and I decided to write it down.
