THE BREATH HOLDER

When I decided to make this movie, it has been only couple of days since my son was born. I have postponed my dream to make a movie due to family responsibilities. My plan to spend my days working as a mechanical engineer failed. Because it has been 1 month since I fail to work as an engineer and quit my job.
When I told my idea of my wife, I was motivated as she said, “you just make the movie, we will somewhat find the money”. First thing I did has to grab my phone and search for the actors in my head. First, I called experienced actor Ayşe Tunaboylu acting as the mother. One year ago, I came across with her in a cafe and I have the chance to talk with her. Excitedly, I told her about the movie on the phone. She liked the screenplay and told me that she is happy to act. But she requested a written screenplay.
This is when the everything about the movie started. Because, the screenplay in my mind was just 3-5 scenes. When Mrs. Ayşe asked screenplay, I had to write that movie. I wrote the screenplay that night in few hours.
After that as Güray Özcan lead actor, and Yiğit Arı in the role of the boss accepted my offers, I had to film it. And I had to film it good.
When I thought I would make the film with 500 dollars, although actors took no money, the budget get higher to 3000, 4000 dollars. Music copyrights, colourist, equipment, technical team had increased my credit card debt. I also spend the gold coins given when my son was born.
At the end, when we completed the movie and when everyone watched it, I realised that we did an amazing job. Presenting your own ideas to audience via music, audio, and visuals and addressing to emotions and feelings of audience is both really enjoyable and satisfactory. All ideas explicitly told in this movie are actually our daily conversations with our friends. These are masks on our faces and insincerity of people. Hypocritical interest relationships in work place, family, on television, and between governments...

Screenplay and the idea came when I was taking a shower. But it is insignificant. The important thing was to film what was on our mind. To make a move. Not to let the story in our mind to be incomplete like the rest.
This movie was one of the greatest teacher for me in cinema and no matter happen happens, it will always have a special place...
Now we are trying to make feature-length of this. This short film was an amazing trial for feature-length. It is too soon to tell whether it will happen. We also don’t know.
