Artist Biography

Nathalie Bonin is an active composer and violinist. As a composer, she has numerous credits for Canadian network and international television series as well as soundtracks for touring shows including the European megastar hypnotist Messmer “Intemporel” tour. Her mentors include Michael A. Levine, Conrad Pope, William Ross, Chris Hajian, Mark Snow, Sean Callery, Benjamin Newhouse and Angel Velez in Los Angeles and New York during the ASCAP NYU Hollywood Filmscoring Worshop, the SCL NY Composers Mentorship Program, various internships and the LA Filmscoring Conducting Intensive program at Warner Bros Studios in Burbank, CA.

A graduate from McGill University in violin performance (Dean’s Honour List, 1993) and having completed the Master’s Certificate in Orchestration for Film/TV with Berklee Online School (“Gloria Estefan” Berklee Online Scholarship, 2015), Nathalie has won many Prizes and Awards: Finalist in the 1st OTICONS Faculty Film Music Competition (2014), Canada Arts Council and Quebec Arts Council Grants (1998-2016), 1st Prize Darhius Milhaud Competition (McGill University, 1992); 1st Prize Long Island University Summer Festival Concerto Competition (1985), and Winner at the Canadian Music Competition in Montreal (1981). She has played on more than 60 albums and numerous television and movie soundtracks as well as soundtracks for various musicals.

Very active on the local and international scene in various styles, Nathalie was guest soloist with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for 3 concerts celebrating the release of the album “Portrait in Seven Shades” at the prestigious Rose Theater of the JALC in New York. Member of the New York based Jazz quintet: Ted Nash and ODEON since 2005, Nathalie was guest soloist of the Société de Musique Contemporaine du Québec (SMCQ) directed by Walter Boudreau, Concertmaster for the Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal for their West Canada Tour in 2007, and plays regularly as section violinist in the Orchestre Métropolitain and l’Opéra de Montréal since 1993.

Asides from her numerous contributions as soloist in contemporary, jazz, tango and world music ensembles, Nathalie has also performed or recorded with: Stevie Wonder, Peter Cetera, YES, Luciano Pavarotti, Charles Aznavour, Gino Vannelli, Salvatore Adamo, Bran Van 3000, Moist, Gage, Nanette Workman, Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Éloize to name a few.

On a side note, Nathalie is also a daredevil with her gravity-defying aerial violin act that she has presented for worldclass events including: Loréal, Toyota World Conference, NHL All-Star Game, SNC-Lavalin, Genivar, Air Medic and numerous television shows including: “La Vie est un Cirque” (TV5Monde), and Star Academy Finals (SRC).
