Director Biography - Mohitha Sripathi

Mohitha's passion for film began at a very young age. At age five, she would tie a sari so she can dance in the rain at her grandparent's house and by the time she was seven, she would act out every Hindi / Telugu movie song in front of the mirror. As she grew older, she would tell her friends the most elaborate stories and was always the most up to date with Bollywood fashion and gossip. While in college, her parents pushed her to take acting lessons so she could finally study this art she has been interested in for so long.

At age 21, she decided to pursue her passion by writing the script for "Now and Then", a short film produced by CXC. In addition to screen writing, this short film marks her directorial debut. Now and Then has been submitted to various film festivals.

Mohitha's style of direction focuses around raising social awareness through film. In the past, she has worked for ZEE TV USA in their events & marketing departments and has been involved in managing many live concerts, including SLAM, Shah Rukh Khan's first major comeback to international concerts in over a decade.

Currently, she is studying Public Health at the University of Miami's Miller School of Medicine and is working on her second film script.

Director Statement

“Although inspired by Indian cinema, Now and Then portrays the universal emotion of love and showcases the timelessness of the emotion through two generations. As a film written and directed from a female perspective, Now and Then also touches upon the double standards that women may experience regarding the dating culture, even in today’s modern world. These double standards force us to think twice before sharing our stories. We were aiming to bring all the glamour of a Bollywood film- the music, dance, drama- without that 3 hour time commitment or language barrier. We hope this film is relatable for people from various cultural backgrounds and ages.”
