Jada, a charming young Black woman from Compton, CA, is the second person in her family to attend college. While excited to move out and explore a new world, she is completely unprepared for the culture shock that ensues. The series follows Jada as she struggles to balance academics, relationships, activism, and family life.

Writer Biography - Makiah Green

Makiah Green is a writer, revolutionary, and activist. As a professional writer, she aspires to empower and enlighten marginalized communities through film, television and the written word.

Makiah is the founder of Black Book LA, a community for Black millennials in Los Angeles, and is the creator of #MyPWI, an online space for students of color at predominately white universities. Makiah currently works in Hollywood at a multicultural production company, where she assists in the creative development of film, TV, and digital projects. She also works as a freelance writer and has contributed to various publications, including Huffington Post Black Voices, Urban Cusp, FIAT USA Backstage Blog, and Loop 21. In 2016, her blog post, “20 Lessons I’ve Learned Since Leaving the Church,” went viral, amassing over one million views and sparking conversations that reverberated for months.

Makiah Green is a double graduate from the University of Southern California with a Master’s degree in Professional Writing and a B.A. in English-Creative Writing.
