Private Project

my dad is superman

The short is set in the late 80s, in the small town of Muros.
Antonio is a 10 year old boy who attends the fifth grade, his father Bobore is a village drunk, his mother Giovanna is a typical Sardinian woman of those times (rigid and of few words). Their neighbor is Maria, Antonio's bigoted teacher and daughter of a woman nicknamed "dirty ass" in town (one who didn't disdain group sex). The teacher Maria hates Bobore and consequently also Antonio, and never misses an opportunity to attack him.
When Bobore dies on one of his drunken evenings, Antonio will be left with the memory of him (positive in Antonio's vision) as well as the legacy of a general mockery of the town and his classmates. Despite Bobore's continuing reputation as an idiot and drunkard, Antonio will vigorously defend the positive memory he wants to have of his father and will explain it in an essay to read to his classmates. At the same time, his mother Giovanna takes the opportunity in a verse of the Bible to launch a teaching, in the form of an insult, at the teacher Maria.
The short tells of a form of resistance to a painful reality in which a child could feel ashamed and succumb. This form of resistance takes its steps in a lucid and non-psychotic fantasy. Antonio knows well the defects and weaknesses that his father had, but despite this he maintains a romantic and idealized point of view, since he saw other aspects in him, in more depth and since the same fragility and sometimes pettiness of his father are common to all human beings
