Menaka Thiyam, eldest daughter of theatre personality Shri Ratan Thiyam, is a graduate from Women Christian College, University of Chennai. She has a Diploma in Direction, Acting, Camera, Lighting, Editing from the Asian Academy of Film and Television, Noida(U.P).
Her debut short fiction film "Cheng Khujok Ama" receive the Special Jury Mention at Kalpanirjhar International Short Fiction Film Festival 2009. "Cheng Khujok Ama" won the Best Short Fiction Film at the 7th Manipur State Film Festival 2010 and was screened in the festivals of Sangai Film Festival and 50 Years of Manipuri Cinema.
She also produced the documentaries "Confident...born out of love", "Angkor Wat of Cambodia", and worked in Chorus Repertory Theatre's productions "Hanubei Heikol" and "When We Dead Awaken". She was an observer for the Bengali film "Abohomaan", directed by Ritu Porno Ghosh. She also performed in Chorus Repertory Theatre's "Nine Hill One Valley" and participated at the SCOT Summer International Theatre Festival 2009 (Toga, Japan); 'Poorvarang' National Theatre Festival 2009 (Agartala); Pachim Bangal Natya Academy National Theatre Festival 2009 (West Bengal); and Mukti Bodh National Theatre Festival 2009.
